I am a Jersey born State Registered Dietitian who graduated from the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff with a MSc in Dietetics in 1999, having previously gained a BSc (Hons) in Food Studies. My studies have given me the opportunity to mix my interest of the theory of diet, health and nutrition into a career which fulfils my natural enjoyment of working with, and relating to, people of all ages.
My dietetic training was undertaken at Addenbrooke's NHS Trust in Cambridge, with complimentary training at theWembley Community Hospital and the Central Middlesex Hospital, where I gained a wide range of dietetic experience within an in-patient and out-patient environment.
During 1999 to 2001 I worked with the Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Trust, firstly as a Basic Grade Dietitian and then within a Senior post, providing a key role in the nutritional well-being of both NHS and private patients.
In October 2001 I returned home to Jersey and ‘Nutrition and Dietetic Services’ was born. My consultancy work has allowed me to continue my professional development by also working as a hospital dietitian, providing private practice clinics, giving talks to groups and charities, lecturing on healthy eating/sports issues and liaising with Jersey’s Health Promotion Unit to work on promoting the benefits of fruit and vegetables (Grab 5) to school age children and their parents. I completed the City & Guilds 730 Certificate in teaching adults and joined the Freelance Dietitians Group (FDG) to regularly keep in touch with other dietitians in the UK as well as regularly attending study days and conferences.
Through my increasing interest in sports nutrition I became Jersey’s first Accredited Sports Dietitian (ASD) in 2003, (now more formerly known as the Sports Exercise & Nutrition register (SENr)), translating my dietetic skills to within the sporting world. I am a Committee member for the Dietitians in Sport and Exercise Nutrition (DISEN) Group as Publications and Newsletter Editor.
In 2014, I am now combining my private consultancy with the post of Senior Dietitian at the Department of Nutrition & Dietetics at the Jersey General Hospital. I have helped develop ‘Weight Management' and 'bariatric assessment' clinics for the local community, as well as writing and publishing several new diet sheets.
